At Acedeck, our commitment has always been to equip our products with top-quality components, emphasizing durability, performance, reliability, and visual aesthetics. Since our inception in 2022, we have consistently pursued CNC machining for all alloy parts in our boards. Unlike some other companies that charge extra for CNC parts, we firmly believe that superior performance, quality, and reliability should be the standard, not an added cost. In this post, we'll delve into the concept of CNC machining and highlight the substantial advantages it offers.
What is CNC
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) aluminum machining is a precision manufacturing process used to shape and create parts or components from aluminum materials. It involves automated machinery controlled by computer programs that follow precise instructions to cut, shape, drill, or mill an aluminum block, to desired specifications. CNC machining offers high accuracy, repeatability, and versatility, making it a popular choice in industries like aerospace, automotive, electronics, and more for creating custom aluminum parts with intricate designs and tight tolerances. It allows for efficient production and customization while ensuring consistent quality.
Cast Aluminum vs CNC Aluminum
Cast aluminum is a manufacturing process where molten aluminum is poured into molds to create various parts and components. It's known for its versatility, allowing for complex shapes, but has much less precision and structural strength/integrity compared to CNC machined parts.
Most electric skateboard brands fit their very high-end boards with cast, or forged aluminum parts, which is fine for budget boards under 700$ that are not made for high speeds, and long rides, but not for high-end performance boards.
CNC machined parts emerge as the clear winner when it comes to precision, durability, and performance, and are also commonly used in Downhill Longboarding.
Longboard Trucks
At high speed, with high-performance boards, trucks are probably the most important part of an electric skateboard. They are what keeps you steady, and a bad truck design or material can be very dangerous, and that's why all our trucks are a custom Precision CNC machined design, and a 10mm to 12mm axle size, while others still use thin 8mm skateboard axles.
These trucks are favored by riders who prioritize stability, responsiveness, and a longer lifespan. They excel in providing superior control, especially during turns and at high speeds. While cast longboard trucks may be more budget-friendly and offer a variety of styles, CNC machined trucks deliver a premium quality that can significantly enhance your riding experience. For those seeking top-notch performance and reliability, CNC machined longboard trucks are the preferred choice, offering a level of excellence that's hard to match with cast trucks.
Cast trucks can also much more easily break during impact or even intense vibration, due the inconsistent structural integrity.
Wheel Hubs
Once again, at Acedeck we believe that high-end performance shouldn't be an extra. All of our AT boards are fitted by default with high-quality CNC machined wheel hubs, and not extra, instead of the plastic hubs found on most other boards. Alloy wheel hubs will improve stability due to tighter tolerance, equal on each wheel. They are also a lot more durable of course. Plastic wheel hubs will soften and make creaking sounds after a while, and lose their integrity over time, which can results in wobbles.
And let's face it, they also look incredible.
Gear Box
Our Gear Drive enclosures, too, undergo CNC machining using high-quality aluminum. In the case of enclosures, even more than with trucks or wheel hubs, achieving tight tolerances is extremely important . Why, you ask? Well, it's because the two halves of the enclosure must fit seamlessly, not only for peak efficiency with the gears but also to ensure it remains impervious to dust and debris. And, in keeping with our commitment to excellence, this precision also enables us to deliver a premium visual design.
In Conclusion
And this is why all those parts come by standards with all our performance boards, instead of cast or plastic parts. Because at the speeds you are going, your trucks should offer precise control, and not use the same axles that are fitted on basic skateboards from the 90s. And you would never see a performance bike or car with plastic wheel hubs. Choose safety and durability. Choose Acedeck.
